Isuru Liyanage is a talented young designer linked to URBAN ISLAND. A merger of modern simplicity and traditional handcrafted luxury is what drives his take on fashion. Isuru is originally from Matara, Sri Lanka and graduated in 2012 from Northumbria University UK through AOD Colombo. Isuru is often inspired by shape and form as much as he is by modern lifestyle.

As a designer, he constantly aims to balance his design aesthetic through form and function. His graduate collection inspired by a juxtaposition of traditional Russian knit combined with sports luxe, gained global recognition: It showcased in both London, in collaboration with Central St Martins, sustainable fashion exhibition and then in Shanghai as a finalist for the IAF International Designer Awards. Isuru was then appointed by Orient design centre where he designed for Tommy Hilfiger sportswear, before joining as head of design at Urban Island, which is part of the multi brand platform

Isuru’s new SS17 collection for URBAN ISLAND is inspired by the simplified beauty of nature represented through traditional Sri Lankan craft techniques that bring in fine details of handloom and embroidery. Working with fine linen to create clean effortless shapes Isuru brings in carefully embellished traditional Sri Lankan floral motifs to add a sense of delicate luxury. With a colour palette that focuses on neutrals and dusty tones, the collection is ethereal and pure.
